Located on 90 acres of land in the Driftless Region west of Madison, WI this private residence focusses on directing the layout of the home to take full advantage of the long endless views through the naturally shaped terrain of Southwestern Wisconsin. The buildings modern forms mirror the undulating hillside while the open and clean lined interior entertaining spaces spill out to exterior terraces that continue to emphasize the sweeping vistas. From the primary suite and two guest suites on the lower level the orientation continues to focus the space back to the outdoors. From the lower level you are able to travel through a tunnel to a secondary structure that houses an indoor pool that spills out to an outdoor entertainment terrace on the lower level with a fitness room and collector car show room on the upper level. The project began with site master planning to vision the initial phase and future out-building development that are integrated into, and sensitive to, the rolling landscape while taking advantage of special vistas and promenades. Access and approach sequencing was integral to the Owner’s desired experience, and was further developed with the assistance of Ken Saiki Design Landscape Architects. The siting of the initial residential structures is nested into the hillside to minimize the impact with portions such as the garage actually being buried into the hill with landscaping above.
